What travelers can do to help protect The Galápagos Islands.

The Galápagos Islands – a World Heritage Site – are located in the Pacific Ocean about 1,000 km from the Ecuadorian coast. These islands are special because the wildlife and ecosystems there are unique. Therefore, it is important to conserve the Galápagos Islands.

Below are some tips for travellers to follow to reduce their impact on the islands:

  • Do not take away any plants or animals, wood or shells from the islands.
  • Do not bring any food or live material to the islands or from one island to the other.
  • Stay within the permitted areas and only visit the islands with a naturalist guide.
  • Do not litter on the islands or throw rubbish into the ocean.
  • Do not buy souvenirs made from animals or plants from the islands.

By doing these, visitors can help protect the unique species of the islands and help preserve this natural wonder of the world.
